currently listening to: catch and release by silversun pickups

it is sad to me how people come and go so easily from our lives.
someone you spend every day with can become someone you ignore completely.
someone you spend every night with can become someone you pretend not to see from across the room.
someone who once knew all of your secrets will pretend they forgot them,
and will never check up to see if you're doing all right.
it is sad to me how quickly someone you cared about will forget how close you once were.

but there is something amazing about the people that stay around.
some people will stay close to your heart regardless of:
struggle, distance, fights, strife, life, stress, and every little thing that goes wrong each day.
these are the most beautiful people and the most beautiful of all relationships.
these are the people who will put you back together when you're falling apart, bring you back up when you fail, and cheer the loudest when you succeed.
these are the relationships that are so rare to find but will not fall apart, no matter how bad you fuck it up.

even though we've changed and we're finding our own place in the world,
we all know that when the tears fall or the smile spreads across our face,
we'll come to each other because no matter where this crazy world takes us,
nothing will ever change so much to the point where we're not all still friends.

when someone looks you in the eye,
sees you're tearing up,
pours you three shots and says
"take these and let's get the fuck out of here"
you've really hit the jackpot.

i am so grateful for these people.
i love them with all my heart.
i don't know what i would do without them.
and i will never take them for granted.

we are friends and i do like to pass the day with you
in serious and inconsequential chatter.
i wouldn't mind washing up beside you,
dusting beside you,
reading the back half of the paper while you read the front.
we are friends
and i would miss you,
do miss you,
and think of you very often.
